Hanging Trout Fancying Grandmothers
I dropped it down the wishing well
(Tell us again, tell us again)
It made a sound like a funeral bell
A mile or two before morning
You peered into the murky deep
(Tell us again, tell us again)
Until you tumbled fast asleep
Ignoring your nightmare's warning
Pretending not to hear the splash
(Of what again? Of what again?)
I turned away, to claim the cash
for perjury, suborning
But when they heard they eerie cries
(Of what again? Of what again?)
They saw right through my puny lies
And rent mine ears with scorning
