Surrendering to something
With a length of twine
Amounted to admitting
That you were not mine
When the goalpost shifted
To another pitch
Higher than permitted
By the drainage ditch
Then I raised my rattle
In the battle dim
And like stampeding cattle
I saw your cross-bones grim
