Athens Whose Ruins
What venom lies behind the name
That Satan etched on Cain
Is not for us to presuppose
Usurping from the One Who Knows
The powers of a ne'er-do-well
Both futile and eek vain
Whose quest the very airs dispel
The pleasure of our pain
Beyond the bleak horizon's grip
Where sailors cross themselves and spit
We cardinals obliquely skip
Such contradictions of our trip
And implicate each passer-by
With wrongdoing's very soul
But never think to wonder why
Not yin nor yang are whole
As the calliope dictates
To those in altered states
