The Sun Wolf
In the tallest tree
Off-black against the field-grey sky
Sits a raven.
On his nanny's knee
He proves all carrion
Offset beyond the poplars' line
Unsustaining
No point in tarrying
Older than the wood
Offcut before our father's time
It sees nothing
Settling for good
The thicket's deep and thick
Off limits to the younger boys
Come with me, then
To find new terror
The hawk is circling high
Ophelia in her father's mac
(Let's hope it perish not!)
The end is surely nigh
