Poor Child Roland
How he dawdles! Watch the steps
Watch the rambling. Watch the weaving.
Watch him holding to the wall
Watch the others think of leaving
Through his armpit, up the hall...
Yet ... he named a comet bright
After his late mentor's daughter
Found a star that none had known
Floating in his bathing-water
Just as well he lived alone...
How he lingers in our thoughts
Thoughts conflicting, thoughts confusing
Such a winsome woozy chap!
Sometimes wakeful, sometimes snoozing
Never scared to fake a nap
